Dunraven Pass

Picnickers enjoy the view from the top of Dunraven Pass in Yellowstone National Park in August 2016. The pass will be much snowier when it opens on Friday to visitors.

The route over Dunraven Pass in Yellowstone National Park will open to autos on Friday at 9 a.m., provided the weather cooperates.

The road connects Tower Fall area with Canyon Village and climbs almost to the top of Mount Washburn. It's opening one week earlier than usual.

As Dunraven opens, Norris campground will be closed until further notice due to leaks in the water lines and no potable water. The campground was scheduled to open on Friday, as well.

Road information can be found on the park website at go.nps.gov/YellRoads. The map on that page, in addition to phone recordings, will be updated as conditions change. For the public road report call 307-344-2117. To receive Yellowstone road alerts on your mobile phone, text "82190" to 888-777 (an automatic text reply will confirm receipt and provide instructions).
