The grand finale of one of the snowiest seasons in Big Sky Resort’s history — the annual pond skim — will be held on April 21.
Brave souls dressed in outlandish costumes are invited to ski or ride the headwall of Ambush in an attempt to skim across a pond of water on snowboard or skis.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. in front of the Basecamp to Yellowstone building in the plaza at Mountain Village. Skimming begins at 2:30 p.m. The event, sponsored by Samuel Adams, is limited to 100. Registration is $25 per person. Spectating is free.
Ramcharger Chairlift will operate until 5 p.m. for Sunset Saturday. The other chairlifts will close as usual at 4 p.m.
Big Sky Resort strongly encourages carpooling to the resort, or taking public transportation. The Skyline bus will depart Town Center in Big Sky for the Mountain Village every half hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bus service will also depart the Mountain Village twice an hour for Town Center along the normal bus route.
