Folf fundraiser

Eliza Wiley Independent Record - The Sleeping Giant Disc Golf Association held a fundraising effort at the Staggering Ox last week playing 9 holes of mini-indoor frisbee golf thorughout the Lundy Center, Staggering Ox and Red Atlas. The local folf chapter raised $1,200 to benefit the south hills course.

Local disc golf enthusiasts brought their plastic to an unusual spot Saturday — a course of nine “holes” inside the Staggering Ox — raising money for past and future improvements at the disc golf course in the South Hills.

The Sleeping Giant Disc Golf Association is still paying for the installation of tee pads and tournament-grade baskets at the course, which is on city land. More tee pads and baskets, as well as signage, are still to come for the course, off Cabernet Drive near the South Helena exit of Interstate 15.

About 35 people used miniature discs and baskets and raised about $1,200 in the tournament Saturday, according to association president Jason Schmidt.

He said he’s unaware of an indoor disc golf tournament anywhere else, but that an indoor fundraiser last year was a hit with the golfers.
