AARP driver safety class upcoming 

AARP Driver Safety has a single driver safety class scheduled in Helena during August. Participants receive updates on the rules of the road and learn driving strategies to adapt to the effects of aging and to reduce chances of having a crash. The course was developed for participants age 50-plus, but is open to all ages. The course fee is $20 ($15 with AARP membership card). Auto insurance companies in Montana provide a multi-year discount to participants 55 years of age and older.

  • Friday, Aug. 17, at First Interstate Bank-East, 2728 Colonial Drive, from noon until about 4:30 p.m.

Jordan Hronek, of Helena, has been awarded a Master of Physician Assistant Studies, Physician Assistant from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wisconsin, at the commencement ceremony in May.

MCF awards Helena-area students $105K in scholarships

The Montana Community Foundation, Inc. (MCF) awarded $431,550 in scholarships to 138 Montana students for the 2018-2019 academic year. In Helena, East Helena, Avon, Toston, Townsend and Lincoln, 23 students received scholarships totaling $105,300.

Each year, MCF awards scholarships ranging from $500 to $20,000 to deserving students across Montana. While qualifications for each scholarship vary, each student is required to go through a competitive application process to be considered. Some scholarships are renewable, meaning students can apply to receive funding for multiple years.

The Helena scholarship winners are:

Students can begin applying online for MCF scholarships Jan. 1. With a variety of scholarships to offer, MCF urges all students to dream big and take part in its scholarship application process.
