Kathy Metully and Tom Miller were married Dec. 21, 1952, in Butte. The two began their courtship after meeting at the snack bar at Western Montana College in Dillon in 1951.
The Millers spent 73 combined years in education, Tom working as a teacher and as a principal and Kathy working as a teacher. Students in Dillon, Hamilton, Corvallis, Darby and Helena were all lucky enough to have had these great educators influence their lives.
The Millers spent their 65th anniversary reminiscing on happy memories of their marriage from times spent in France, where Tom served in the U.S. Army in 1953, to memories of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as memories of their many years in education. Kathy, with glimmering eyes, recalled seeing the most beautiful sunset behind the Eiffel Tower the night of their return trip from Paris, while Tom looked at her adoringly. This simple moment showed that their love for each other has only grown stronger each year of wedded bliss.
The couple’s three children are Tom Jr. and his wife Carolyn of West Point, Mississippi; Barb Cooper of Helena who is dearly missed and loved; and Scott and his wife Carolyn of Helena. Their grandchildren are Thomas Miller III and his wife Emily of Phoenix; Nick Morales of Port Orchard, Washington; Drew Miller and his wife Kendra of Bozeman, Lauren Miller of Helena, Matt Miller and his fiancé Sarah of Bozeman, and Mary Miller of Missoula. Their great-grandchildren are Adelle Miller (Nick), Saxon Miller (Drew) and Avery Miller (Drew).
Tom and Kathy have given all of their children and grandchildren a vision of a marriage worth imitating. Here's to many more happy years!
