Howard Gordon Chilcote, 34, of East Helena, was sentenced Wednesday by Lewis and Clark County District Court Judge Mike Menahan to 40 years in Montana State Prison with 25 years suspended for sexual abuse of children as a persistent felony offender, according to sentencing documents.

He was given credit for time served from July 15, 2014, to May 20, 2015.

The court designated Chilcote a Tier I sexual offender based upon a psychosexual evaluation and other documentation, according to court documents.

Should the defendant ever be placed in a community setting, he must comply with 46 conditions listed in the sentencing document. Among them is a prohibition against living in a residence with children under the age of 18 and he must successfully complete sexual offender treatment.

According to the original arrest affidavit, Chilcote used the moniker SI13NT on a popular peer-to-peer file sharing network, ARES, to search and download multiple videos and images of "pre-pubescent" males and females engaging in sexual conduct with adult men, the Independent Record reported Aug. 26, 2014.

A detective with the Helena Police Department was assigned to the Montana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and discovered a computer in the Helena area was downloading suspicious files, the affidavit said.

Officers traced the computer to the residence of Chilcote’s mother, Patricia Guajardo, where Chilcote was residing, according to the IR article. After a search of the residence, they determined Chilcote was the primary user of the computer and was the only one downloading the files, the affidavit stated.
