The Windbag is back

Helena's Windbag Saloon & Grill has reopened under new management, but with limited hours.

Housed in the building that was once home to Big Dorothy's brothel on the Downtown Walking Mall, the Windbag was sold in October 2015, said Matt Schmechel, one of the business' three owners.

Renovation started in March of this year.

The renovation project, which included the addition of a fireplace and an overhead garage door to offer patio seating in the summer months, involved “a pretty significant capital outlay,” Schmechel said.

The restaurant will be featuring a new menu, he added.

Schmechel said the bar and restaurant opened Nov. 17 and will be open this week from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., although it may close sooner depending on business. It will be closed for Thanksgiving.

It will keep the same hours next week, and then remain open from 11 a.m. until closing each night, which will depend on business.

Schmechel and the Windbag's other two owners also own the Thomas Meagher Bar in Missoula.
