Helena's Lewis & Clark Brewing Co. is partnering with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in Chico, California, and many other breweries across the country to brew a new IPA next week to support Camp Fire relief efforts.

Sierra Nevada will brew Resilience IPA on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 27. "We will brew the same beer that day with a recipe supplied to us by Sierra Nevada," said Max Pigman, president and owner of Lewis and Clark Brewing Co.

Pigman said he received an email about the program inviting him to participate. He didn't hesitate to join the effort.

“Obviously the fire was a bad one,” Pigman said. “We’ve had bad ones here before.”

Not only could he identify, he has an additional personal connection as he has friends and family in the area who were affected.

“This hit a lot closer to home,” he said. “Besides, having another IPA on tap is never a bad thing.”

The brewery is donating its own materials to brew the beer and donating 100 percent of the sales of Resilience IPA to Camp Fire relief.

Watch for Resilience IPA to come out in the next three weeks or so.

The Camp Fire, now the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history, started on Nov. 8 in the hills above the brewery’s Chico facility. At the time of this release, the fire had burned 142,000 acres, killed more than 70 people and left hundreds missing, destroyed more than 9,700 homes, and displaced nearly 14 percent of Sierra Nevada’s Chico employees.

“We've said it before and we'll say it again: there's nothing quite like the brewing community,” said a Facebook post by Sierra Nevada owner and founder Ken Grossman. "Since sending out the bat-signal for joining the Camp Fire relief effort, hundreds of breweries have reached out saying 'sign us up.'"
