Ground soon will be broken for the construction of Missouri River Brewing Co. in East Helena.
The brewery is the culmination of efforts by three partners who each have their own tastes and specialties.
Scott Hansing, a chiropractor by day, has been home brewing off and on for about 15 years. He’s gotten together with friends, who are gainfully employed elsewhere, and put together plans for a 5,000- to 6,000-square-foot brewery.
“We’re all passionate about what we do,” Hansing said. “We have our own recipes.”
The partners have diverse backgrounds. Hansing said that with his science background, he is more of a scientist playing with ingredients developing his own recipes.
Beer enthusiasts have much variety to look forward to, as the partners all have their own tastes. Hansing said he prefers darker beers and German styles, while his partners tastes run more toward IPAs.
The brewery will operate on a 10-barrel system but also will have a one-barrel test system. This is a cheaper way to experiment instead of making a big batch of something and having to throw it out, Hansing said.
“We will be able to really experiment and brew outside of our comfort zone,” he said.
Missouri River Brewing Co. plans to break ground by March at 451 Spencer Court and is slated to open by the end of the year.
