While many people believe that books are becoming a relic of the past, it isn't actually the case. For the outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan, which represents about 80 percent of the book market, sales of print books increased by 2.8 percent in 2015, and over 650 million books were sold in America.
If you haven't bought any books for your loved ones this holiday season, don't fret. PrettyFamous, an entertainment research site by Graphiq, identified the best books released this year to give over the holidays.
Using data from Bowker, LibraryThing and iDreamBooks, PrettyFamous gave each book released in 2016 a Smart Rating. The Smart Rating is scored out of 100 and factors in a book's average user review, number of best seller list appearances and its average critic rating. It also includes the number of user and critic reviews, as well as the number of editions released and the number of awards it has received. Books are ranked based on their Smart Rating, meaning the book with the highest Smart Rating takes the top spot.
With books ranging from fast-paced thrillers to gripping historical fiction, you're sure to find the best book for everyone on your Christmas list — including yourself.
Note: Like all of the articles found on Graphiq-powered sites, this story and its ranking is driven by the data collected and structured on PrettyFamous. On each slide, we've included a link to the book's Amazon page for further reference. Graphiq may receive compensation if you purchase the product via that specific link.
