Helena branch seeks to develop relationships

First Montana Bank opened the
doors of its Helena Branch Oct. 1,
2019, and Kenny Martin, its Helena
market president, hit the ground running.
One of his satisfied customers is
Steve Pierce, owner of Summit Collision Center, which recently moved to
a new, larger location on Highway 12
--thanks to Martin.
The building Pierce had his eye on
was one Martin knew all about.
“He knew the right people to talk to
and all the steps to go through with
the SBA (Small Business Administration). He is very knowledgeable at his
Together, they worked through the
SBA paperwork.
“We sat down and went through

all the numbers, and he just reassured
me I’m making the right decision.
“He’s not just being a banker...,
he’s a real person. It’s him sitting there
dealing with everything for you. It was
actually pretty hassle-free.”
Pierce was finally able to move
out of an undesirable lease situation,
where he was paying $10,000 per
month for 10 years.
He’s moved to a space that’s twice
as large that he now owns.
“There are three buildings on the
property, so we have plenty of room to
And the higher profile site has
already boosted business by at least 50
percent, he said.
“We do anything that’s collision
repair,” he said.

But they’ve also done some
much smaller projects. “People bring
in weird things that we paint. I’ve
painted bed frames, wheels, chairs...
all sorts of things. We pay attention to
what the community needs.”
“I would recommend to anybody
they use Kenny and his bank. He’s
just so approachable and easy to work
“One thing I’ll say about Kenny ...
he actually showed up to help us move
and clean up our shop. It’s one of the
reasons I chose to go with Kenny
--he’s the kind of person who wants to
help somebody.”
“It’s been fun for both of us,” said
Martin, adding that Pierce’s wife,
Jaime, who does the books, has been a
great business partner.

“It’s a good relationship -- beginning and end of story,” said Martin.
“We try to develop relationships that
work. He knows I have his best interests….at heart.”
Martin has worked with people in
all kinds of businesses in his 35 years
in banking, he said, and done all kinds
of small business loans.
“It’s what I enjoy,” he said. “I enjoy
watching when people can grow from
making five widgets per year to 50
“It creates more jobs, that’s why I
like small businesses.”
