HELENA — Local cowgirl Kristin Lane was a member of the third-place trio in the No. 7 Team Penning Finals at the 2018 Calgary Stampede recently. Lane was aboard her Dual Rey mare RayBan.

The Stampede's team penning classes were based on relative skill and experience, with the nearly 800 teams competing in three days of qualifying competition. The top 20 teams in each class progressed to compete in the third round, with the top 10 teams moving on to the finals.

The purse for No. 7 Class, which 207 teams entered, reached $94,392, with Lane and her two Canadian teammates earning over $4,000.

Helena area cowboys Randy Stewart and Ed Chevalier were also part of a threesome that made the Top-20 performance in Calgary.
