After ending Election Day in a tie, the race for East Helena's Ward 2 council member seat may come down to the two provisional ballots yet to be counted.

"We have two provisional ballots, but they may or may not be resolved and counted," said Audrey McCue, elections supervisor for Lewis and Clark County. " ... If there's a tie, then we would do a recount of the votes."

Initial results show Donald E. Dahl and Kelly Harris each received 165 votes Tuesday.

Dahl is a retired auto technician serving his first term as a council member. He also chairs the zoning committee that recently updated the zoning ordinances and vice chairs the planning board that adopted regulations for subdivisions and update the city’s growth policy. He’s lived in East Helena for 40 years. In a candidate survey, Dahl said he would work to help the city create a master plan for road maintenance and repair.

“I want to promote the sale of the ASARCO Trust properties to bring new businesses and tax base to our community,” he said in the survey.

Harris, an employee at the Department of Labor and Industry, said he was running to promote responsible growth and create jobs, according to his survey response.
