Helena's Evan Eck placed third at the 30th annual Grizzly Triathlon on Saturday. Eck, 31, traversed the 1,000-yard swim, 20K bike ride and 5K run, with a time of 1 hour, 6 minutes, 49 seconds. He was just 90 seconds out of second place.

On the women's side Julie Ackerlund, 51, placed eighth, with a 1:19:27 clocking. She placed third in the Masters division.

Rounding out the top local-area finishers were Mitch Young in 19th place, Emerson Godbolt in 21st and LeAnn Weigand, who came in 22nd.

Helena's Bill Allen, 56 -- who holds the record for competing in the most Griz Tris with 26 races -- placed seventh in his age group.
