The Helena Athletic Club's Mustangs watch other teams perform their routines at the Great Northern Cheer and Dance Championship Sunday in Helena.

The ninth annual Great Northern Cheer and Dance Championships, hosted by the Helena Athletic Club, concluded on Sunday in the Carroll PE Center. Over 200 athletes and teams from eight towns from around the state took part in the event, which was hosted by the Helena Athletic Club.

The top local groups included the Helena High Bengalettes, who captured the Senior Prom championship, while the Northwest Wild garnered the Youth Level 1 prep title. Also, the HAC Mustangs Diamonds and Sapphires topped their respective categories, along with the Tiny Novice team, the Mustangs Pearls.

Graduating Mustangs seniors Gracie Eason and Kylie Simpson were honored during the Parade of Athletes.

The top Varsity award went to Glacier High, and the Senior Lyrical Solo crown went to Morgan from Hi-Line Dance. Exceptional performances were turned in by the Senior Level 4 stunt group Apex Elite (Billings) and the specialty, jumps and tumbling routines from Northern Pacific Cheer (Miles City). Bozeman's Motion Athletics captured many top spots with five solid performances.
