Montana City hockey standout Tylar Holland is helping her college team make a bit of history.
Holland, a sophomore, plays both forward and defense for Minot State. The team qualified for a first-ever American Collegiate Hockey Association Women's DII National Tournament, held in Columbus, Ohio, last week. The Lady Beavers entered the tournament the sixth seed out of six teams on the Western side of the tournament, pitting them against the best from the East.
In pool play, the Beavers defeated No. 4 West Miami of Ohio 5-0, and No. 1 Buffalo University 7-4. That gave Minot a pool play win, and put the team in the semifinals, where it ultimately fell to North Dakota State University, 4-3.
Holland led her team in defensive points for the tournament with one goal and two assists. The team had a tremendous season and was thrilled to come away with a top-four finish out of the 12-team field.
Fellow Montana teammate Cassidy McGree, from Butte, is a junior on the team.
