The Helena Bighorns high school hockey team team opened its season recently in Havre, winning one and tying one versus the Havre Ice Hawks. The first game saw the teams skate to a 2-2 tie. Quinn Nichols put the Bighorns on the board in the first period, assisted by Wyatt Burrell. Helena's second goal came in the second period, as defenseman Trevor Hernandez scored on an assist from Shane Palcisko.

Helena edged Havre 6-5 in the second tilt. Tamer Billman led Helena scorers with two goals, while Seamus Sullivan provided 2 assists. Helena also saw goals from Burrell, Palcisko, Hernandez and Jonathan Schoof. Bighorns goalie Morgan Butler kept the team in both games, recording 34 saves over the weekend.

Helena will resume action with a pair of games against Bozeman at 3:50 p.m. today and 10:40 a.m. Sunday. Both games are at the Helena Ice Arena.
