Taking on the Wooster Oilers at the NA3HL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota, the Helena Bighorns gave up five second-period goals and fell 6-3 on Saturday.
The Horns actually held the lead after a period of play, Ben Kottmeier scoring 5:58 into the game. But Wooster exploded for three goals in the first 6:10 of the second period, and then added two more by the time 5:29 remained in the frame.
That landed Helena in a four-goal hole, and it was simply too much ground to make up. Bradley Estrada scored his 20th of the season in the third, and teammate Adam Apangalook scored at 17:05 to pull Helena within two. But just 20 seconds later, Nicholas Mooney scored for Wooster, resulting in the final margin.
Nicholas Battaglia took the loss for the Bighorns, stopping 21 of 27 shots.
The Capital City crew will finish out the Showcase on Sunday, facing off against the Lockport Express. The Game is set to start at 9:40 a.m. local time.
