A brutal second period was too much to overcome Saturday for the Helena Bighorns, as the team fell on the road to Great Falls, 7-2.
The teams finished the first period scoreless, and Helena managed to get on the board first in the second. That goal came off the stick of Ryatt Bayne, just 2:39 into the frame.
But 26 seconds later, Ricards Bernhards scored the equalizer for the Americans. The home team then scored against at 4:46 and at 7:58 -- both markers by Tanner Congdon -- to take control of the game.
Great Falls scored twice more in the second, the last of those goals coming with 31 seconds before intermission.
Helena did score again in the third, Adam Apangalook knocking one in at 1:24. But it wasn't near enough. Great Falls added a sixth goal midway through the frame and Congdon earned a hat trick with the final goal of the night, at 16:41.
