Missoula Sentinel volleyball players Jami Flink and Lauren Cody dug 17 balls apiece in helping the Spartans to a four-set win over Capital High on Thursday.
Sentinel's 25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18 Western AA Conference win in the Bears' Den drops the Bruins to 5-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Capital let 18-14 leads slip away in each of the first two sets, as the Spartans got even at 18-all both times.
"We're on an emotional roller coaster right now," said CHS coach Hollee Goody. "We're getting beat mentally; we just have to get mentally tougher."
The Bruins didn't let the third set get away, however.
After falling behind 6-1, Sadie Pilgeram served six straight points to pull the Bruins ahead 8-6.
The host built a 20-16 cushion, but then the Garden City group fought back to knot the score at 20s. It would be tied twice more, at 21s and 22s.
Julia Anderson's block made it 23-22, and minutes later Savannah Smith spiked the set-winning kill.
In the last set, Capital closed to within 21-18, before Missoula's Jami Flink served the final four points, climaxed by a service ace to end the evening.
Olivia Roberts and Maddie McCarthy had 13 kills and 28 assists, respectively, for the Lady Spartans.
Capital was led by Anderson, with 12 kills and three aces, and Aran Hines, with 20 assists and three blocks. Elise Mathis posted 16 digs, while Smith had nine kills, 12 digs and three aces.
