HELENA -- The Capital High volleyball team clinched second place in the Western Conference with a four-set win over Missoula Hellgate on the road Saturday. The Bruins bested the Knights by scores of 25-22, 18-25, 25-16, 25-23 in the regular season finale to finish at 18-6 overall and 8-4 in conference action. They finish behind 3-time league champion Missoula Sentinel.

CHS was led by their "Dynamic Duo" -- senior Katie Culver and sophomore Sarah Ashley -- against Hellgate, as they have all year. Ashley spiked 13 kills, while Culver posted 15 digs and four blocks. Audrey Hofer set 26 assists, while Emily Kidder served two aces and blocked four shots, and Dani Bartsch had four stops.

"It was a hard-fought battle where players stepped up at the right time," said coach Rebecca Cleveland, whose Bruin spikers receive a bye to the state tournament by virtue of their second-place finish. "We had to dig ourselves out of a few holes, but we persevered as one.

"We take pride in completing another goal we've had since August by earning a bye to State in Bozeman."
