The Capital High volleyball team placed third at the Electric City Invitational on Saturday in the CMR bracket, defeating Flathead in the consolation finals 25-19, 25-23. Billings Senior captured the tourney title over Missoula Sentinel in the finals, while Helena High dropped both Saturday matches.
The Bruins opened bracket play with a 25-16, 25-11 win over Great Falls High, lost to Senior 26-24, 25-17, and then beat Bozeman 25-18, 25-19 in the consolation semifinals.
Leading the way for CHS on the day were Katie Culver with 19 kills and 21 digs, 42 assists by Celina Sanchez, and freshman Dani Bartsch's six service aces and five blocks. Sarah Ashley chipped in with 18 kills and 17 digs, and Emily Kidder posted five blocks.
"We just had a great finish overall," said CHS coach Rebecca Cleveland.
Helena lost to Sentinel 25-14, 25-22 and to Bozeman 25-14, 25-19. Taylor Hout led HHS with eight kills and three blocks. Passing for 15 assists were Emily Feller, while Kaci Lloyd had 11 digs, and Amelia Stoner served two aces. Jamie Pickens blocked three shots.
