The Capital High and Helena High swim teams will dive into the season opener Friday with a dual meet at Butte.

This meet was traditionally a home event for years, but will be held in the Mining City because the local schools no longer have a swimming facility for competition.

There are six returning senior lettermen on the local teams — both of which are coached by Julie Youngblood — including Capital's Sage Ellis, Shannon Murray and Jacob Fleury, and Helena's Emma Dole, Elizabeth Rigby and Eva Keller.

Last year, the Helena boys placed seventh and the Capital girls finished ninth.

The lone returning all-staters are Bengal boys Jesse Mace, a junior, and sophomores Parker Keller and Jacob Malaski, who were members of HHS's fourth-place 200 medley relay. Keller also placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke, and Malaski was sixth in the 500 freestyle.

Returning to the Capital girls are three members of the 2017 eighth-place 200 free relay, including sophomores Kate Sheafor, Maija Geier and Leah Baranek. However, not everyone will be competing Friday based on eligibility for number of practices.
