Capital High all-state volleyball player Katie Culver has committed to play for Westminster College in Salt Lake City.
"I decided on Westminster because I've always wanted to live in a big city, and with Salt Lake I get that feeling," Culver related. "The campus still has the small town feeling that I have always loved."
A 5-foot-10 outside hitter, the senior spiker helped this year's Bruins to a Western Conference runner-up finish, a third-place trophy at the State Tournament, and a 22-8 overall record.
Culver finished No. 2 on the brown and gold, with 270 kills and 324 digs, and was third at 43 blocks.
"Katie is a natural leader, by work ethic and how she motivates her teammates to be their best," CHS coach Rebecca Cleveland said. "She seeks input from coaches on how to improve her skills and uses that feedback to get better.
"Katie's consistent play and voice on the court have strengthened our program, and will be areas of contributions from her at the collegiate level."
Culver said she "immediately got along with the Westminster players" and felt like part of the team.
"I really enjoy (their coach's) coaching style and the school offers all of the classes that I'm interested in," she said.
Katie - who sports a 4.0 GPA in the classroom and wishes to pursue a degree in health science or premed - is the daughter of Helena's Britt and Brenda Culver.
