HELENA -- The rosters for the 72nd Annual Montana East-West Shrine Football Game have been announced. The game will be played July 21, 2018 in Great Falls.
The Montana Shrine Game is the premier all-star game in Montana and is one of the oldest high school all-star football games in the country. Ever since 1947, many of the state’s finest senior gridders have competed in the game to raise money for the orthopedic and burn care center at Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Spokane, Washington. Over the last five years this game has raised nearly $500,000.
The West Team will be coached by Kyle Mihelish from Helena Capital, and consists of eight local players; five from Capital and three from Helena High.
Mihelish will be directing his own Bruins' Justin Jenks (D-line), Conor Quick (center), Seth Schneider (running back), Carson Shuman (O-guard), and Trevor Welnel (O-tackle); along with Bengals Kaleb Winterburn (quarterback), Conner Nash (linebacker) and Caeden Suero (D-line).
Also on the team will be former Bengal Max Morris (tight end) of Flathead.
Mihelish played for Capital and then Montana Western. His first coaching opportunity came in 1996 as a Great Falls High assistant. Mihelish then returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach, and the last three years as head coach. At Capital he directed the brown-and-gold to three consecutive playoff semifinal appearances.
Among West’s assistant coaches will be Capital assistant – and former HHS Bengal and UM Griz great – Ryan Fetherston.
Tabbed as alternates for the West are Helena’s Kyle Tabbert; Capital’s Mark Northey and Conor McCarvel; Townsend’s Easton Hatfield; and Jefferson High’s Nate Brunett and Hayden Guisti.
The East Team will be coached by Levi Wesche from Bozeman High.
