The Helena High girls hoopsters cruised to a 61-27 victory over Missoula Big Sky in the season finale on the road Saturday.
The No. 2 Lady Bengals finish the regular season at 17-3 overall and 10-2 in conference play, and will now have nearly two weeks off, having secured a bye to the State Tournament in Great Falls. Helena's only two losses came at the hands of Western champion Missoula Sentinel. The Lady Spartans finish at 19-1, 11-1, with their lone defeat occurring in their season finale on Saturday versus Flathead.
Helena scored 29 points in the first period against the Lady Eagles, 14 in the second and 18 in the third. HHS' junior varsity played the final period and were unable to crack onto the scoreboard. Coach Eric Peterson said that "no one played more than 20 minutes."
Kamden Hilborn and Hailey Crawford led the red-and-white's attack, with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Hilborn was 7 of 9 from the floor and 2 for 2 at the free throw line, while Crawford drained three long shots from 3-point land. Hilborn passed for seven assists, while teammate Kendra Kloker pilfered four steals. Jamie Pickens had eight points and a game-high seven rebounds.
