District 1B

Conrad Cowboys

Head coach: Eric Stang

2016-17 record: 2-18

Key players: NA. 

Coach says: "New coach, new system ... everything is new including the standards. ... I've been pleased with the effort and work ethic in practice thus far, but we have a lot of work to do in terms reaching our full potential. Our main focus is to just take it one day at a time and work hard to improve each day." 

Etc: Beau Santisteven was All-State...... Logan Gilliard was 1st team All-Conference.....Anders Epperly was All-State for 2 years.....Clayton Reichenbach was 2nd team All-Conference.

Shelby Coyotes 

Head coach: Tom Reynolds 

2016-17 season: 20-8

Starters returning: Macager McAllister, TJ Reynolds, Zach Torgerson, Logan Watson, and Aaron White. 

Other key players: Jarod Anderson, Kade Leck, Brock Whitted.

Coach says:  "We are a veteran senior led team."

Etc: There are 8 seniors this year leading the program.

District 2B

Glasgow Scotties

Head coach: Norm Bratten, 10th year year at Glasgow and 31st overall

2016-17 record: 9-14 (2nd)

Starters returning: Bryce Legare, sr, wing

Other key players: Cade Myrick, jr, pt/wing, all-state/all-conference

Coach says: "Very competitive practices as players fight for playing time. Team will center around all-stater Cade Myrick and last year’s sixth man Bryce Legare. Defense is a large concern as younger players must learn to defend. Lots of individual talent. Key will be putting all of the individual talent into a team that can score consistently." 

Etc: F Brett Glaser returns after missing a year with injuries ... F Chevy Boos is a transfer from Wolf Point ... C Alex Franze is back after missing junior year with injury. 

Malta Mustangs

Head coach: David Costin 

2016-17 record: 22-5

Starters returning: Taylor Matthews

Other key players: Tel Jensen, Konner Kuehn, Landon VanWichen, Kevin Henry.

Coach says: "All of this years seniors played varsity minutes last year and a ton of jv games in the last two years so they are an experienced class. We lost a lot of scoring from the three point line from last year and need to see who can fill that need for us. We should be solid inside. We could be decent defensively if we can learn to keep our hands off and move our feet. Like last year we don't have much size, our tallest player is 6'2", but we have decent quickness as a team."

Etc: Taylor Matthews was a first team all-conference & all-state selection.


District 3B

Colstrip Colts

Head Coach: Joe Egan

2016-17 record: 12-6

Starters returning: Payton Means, Isaiah Williams, Rivers Anderson, Joel McRae, Kobee BigBack

Coach says: "Very athletic team with good size and quickness. Good bench depth as well."

Etc: This is coach Egan's third season with the Colts. 

Forsyth Dogies

District 4B

Joliet J-Hawks

Head Coach: John Nelson

Starters returning: Taylor Rowlison, Sr. 

Coach says: Not a lot of varsity experience but we are quick, athletic and a hard working group."

etc; Rowlison was  1st team All-Conference as a junior last season. 

Roundup Panthers 

Head coach: Rick Griffith 

2016-17 season: 18-6

Starters returning: Kelson Eiselein,Sr; Jayce Griffith, Sr; Cash Cota, Sr. 

Other key players: Reice McHenry, Sr, G; Bret Bench, Sr, G; Dalton Kinn, Sr, P; Tanner Rae, So, G. 

Coach says: "We have six seniors with a great amount of experience. We have great leadership in the senior class. Players will do whatever they need to do game in and game out for us to be successful. They are very excited about the season." 

Etc: Kelson Eiselein is a two year All State selection.....Jayce Griffith was a All- State selection last year.......Cash Cota was a All Conference selection last year.

Shepherd Mustangs

Head coach: Bill Lepley 

2016-17 record: 12-12

Key players: Thomas Aigner, Sr., P; Sam Barthuly, Sr, F; Griffin Butsch, Sr., F; Tanner Harrell, Sr., P; Kohl Michels, Sr., G; Dante Downing, Sr., P; Jake Trotter, Sr., G; Spencer Lepley, Jr., G; Badger Martin, Jr., F; Brayden Fulton, Jr. P.

Coach says: "We have a very experienced senior-based team coming back. We are a very good perimeter shooting team. We have good size inside but lack a little in height. Our top returning seniors are Jake Trotter, Griffith Butsch and Sam Barthuly."

Etc: Lepley will be pulling double duty for the first time this season, coaching both the boys and girls at Shepherd. He has been the girls coach at Shepherd for 31 seasons, compiling a 508-245 record. Lepley's resume also includes a stint as the boys coach at Augusta.

District 5B

Jefferson Panthers

Head coach: Clint Layng

2016-17 record: 9-13

Starters returning: Josh Eckmann, Sr., G; Bryce Harrington, Jr., F; Hayden Guisti, Sr., F.

Other key players: Britton Peterson, Sr., G; Nolan Sansberg, Sr., G; Jaxson Vanzich, So., G; Mead Blake, Jr., F; Peyton Loveridge, Sr., F.

Coach says: "We had lots of injuries in football this year and it might take a little while for some guys to get back to 100 percent."

Etc: The 5-foot-4 Eckmann averaged 15 points per game en route to all-conference honors ... Layng had an overall coaching record to 170-134 in 14 years at Sheridan and Jefferson.

Big Timber Herders 

Head coach: Dan Smart 

2016-17 record: 4-15

Starters returning: Blake Finn, Jr; Kell Schwers, Jr; Jacob Roberts, Jr; Casey Gunlikson, Jr; Ethan Bullock, Jr.

Other key players: Hayden Mosness, Sr; Shayden King, Jr; Keegan Durfee, Jr.

Coach says: "Our strength will be our speed, numbers and lots of experience returning. The weakness though will be the mental hurdle of coming off a disappointing season where we made inexperienced mistakes late in the game."

Etc: Finn was a 2nd team all-conference selection....Schwers was a 2nd team all-conference selection as well.

Whitehall Trojans 

Head coach: Zach McLean

2016-17 record: 21-8

Coach says: "All these guys are very unselfish and play well together. Rebounding and controlling the paint will be a huge part in our success."

District 6B

Anaconda Copperheads 

Head coach: Bill Hill

2016-17: 18-9

Key players: Braxton Hill, Sr, PG; Trent Mikalatos, Sr, P/W; Bobby Swainston, Sr, W/P; Gabe Bryne, Sr, W; Zeke Buck, Jr, P/W; Riley Cobban, Jr, P; Micheal galle, So, w/pg; Kyler Goachanour w/pg.

Coach says: "We have good size but we have to replace two starters from last year. The guys have some good athletic ability and a great point guard in Braxton Hill. We could have a decent team if the underclassmen get better in our system" 

Etc: Braxton Hill is a 4 year starter and 3 time All-State selection who averaged 24 ppg.....Trent Mikalatos was a All-State selection last year averaging 15 ppg. 

Florence Falcons

Head coach: Caleb DeGroot

2016-17 record: 11-10

Starters returning: Marcus Zeiler, Brent Stroppel, Dillon Christopherson, Tyce Pederson

Other key players: Trevyn Wood, Brendan Bailey, Jacob Scully, Parker Hotsinpiller.

Coach says: "We have a lot of ball handlers. Overall size is pretty good, we have good guards and shooters." 

Etc: This is coach DeGroot's first season with the Falcons

District 7B

Bigfork Vikings

Head coach: Sam Tudor

2016-17 record: 19-5

Key players: Beau Santisteven, Sr, C; Logan Gilliard, Jr, F; Anders Epperly, Jr, G; Clayton Reichenbach, Jr, G. 

Coach says: "We are deep and competitive. This said we need to continue developing our team chemistry. Epperly and Santisteven are starting to gel well together; they are surrounded by hard workers and good shooters." 

Etc: Beau Santisteven was All-State...... Logan Gilliard was 1st team All-Conference.....Anders Epperly was All-State for 2 years.....Clayton Reichenbach was 2nd team All-Conference. 

Thompson Falls Blue Hawks

Head coach: Jake Mickelson 

2016-17 record: 8-15

Starters returning: Danny Hoisington; Payton Frields ; Dylan Beckman; Nate Thibeault.

Other key players: n/a

Coach says: "We may have the ability to stretch some teams defense with our shooting ability. We do not possess great size and will rely on our guards filling post roles on defense throughout the season. Danny Hoisington averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds/game last season. Nate Thibeault was a key addition late last season and has looked the part during preseason practices."

Etc: Danny Hoisington was 1st Team All-Conference last season....Payton Frields earned 2nd Team All-Conference.

Troy Trojans

Head coach: Bradley Dunn-Meier

2016-17 record: 3-20

Starters returning: AJ Faur, Dylan Cummings.

Coach says: "We are a athletic/motivated team despite having a lack of players with varsity experience."
