KALISPELL - The evening started well for the Capital High School volleyball team, but wrapped up with its season coming to an end.

The Bruins fell in four sets at Flathead in a AA state tournament play-in game Thursday night. Flathead beat the Bruins in all three meetings this season.

Capital lost the match 18-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-21.

"They played hard tonight," Capital coach Sarah Urban said. "We won the first game and we had game-point in the third game. But Flathead found the open court a little bit." "We swung the ball a lot at them and played aggressively."

Flathead's victory was aided by a 103-70 advantage in digs.

The Braves (12-11) edged out Capital(8-15) in every other statistical category.

Kelsey Robertson led the Bruins with 14 of her team's 42 kills. Sami Bignell and Paulina Misarova followed with nine each.

Desiree Schauman added 22 digs and piled up a game-high four aces.

"I thought Kelsey Robertson swung really aggressively from the outside," Urban said. "Sammi just always played hard, she goes out and has a great time and does what you ask her to do."

Emily Burk chipped in 36 of Capital's 38 assists.

"Des Schauman did as well, had 22 digs and served the ball well," Urban said.

Hannah Sacket led Flathead with 19 of her team's 47 kills and tied for a team-high with three aces.

"The seniors, they put a lot of effort into your program, they've spent a lot of time playing and I really appreciate all the hard work they've done," Urban said.
