MISSOULA — The Helena Senators lost a nonleague Class AA American Legion baseball game 7-3 at Lindborg-Cregg Field on Wednesday night.
The Senators led early after a two-run first inning when Colin Sassano singled in Ty McGurran and Riley Chisholm scored on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Carlson.
Missoula came back in the fourth inning. The Mavericks scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. They tacked one more on in the seventh inning.
The Senators scored one more run in the sixth inning when Chisholm singled in McGurran.
Helena out-hit the Mavericks 11-8, but couldn't string enough hits together to keep pace. Two fielding errors also helped the Mavericks.
Chisholm led the Senators at the plate with three hits, a run scored and an RBI. Zach Spiroff and McGurran had two hits each. McGurran scored two runs.
James Martin led the Mavericks with two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Tradd Richardson drove in two runs and Brendan Buchanan scored twice.
Missoula took advantage of the seven walks and three hit batters allowed by the three Helena pitchers.
The Senators fell to 8-8 on the season, and have dropped three straight. They face the Butte Miners on the road Friday night and then have a home doubleheader with Billings on Sunday afternoon.
The Billings doubleheader games are the opening contest of conference play.
The Helena Reps, the local Class A team, defeated the Butte Muckers 17-4 at home.
