Spencer Williams and Brady Kirkeby share the lead after the first day of play at the Bill Roberts Golf Course club championships, each firing 6-under par 66s, during Saturday's round of the men's open tournament. Kirkeby -- who earlier this summer garnered the City crown -- and Williams, are both former two-time BR titlists.
Defending champion Bennett MacIntyre shot a 5-under 67 and is one shot behind the leaders.
In the women's open division, 10-time club champion Susan Court holds a 2-stroke cushion over Julie Eggleston, 84-86.
Doug Olson is the senior men's leader with a 72, followed by KC Yahvah's 73. And the senior women's division is paced by reigning champ DJ Jones at 84, who is two strokes ahead of Sue Bannon's 86.
In the 25-man open tourney, Kirkeby, the 2008 and 2012 BR champion, fired five birdies, an eagle and one bogey. Williams, who won the club title in 2014-15, shot seven birdies, an eagle and three bogies. Both linksters eagled No. 18.
Mike Majors, the defending champion, and Roy Murray are two shots off the pace and tied for third with 74s, in the 36-man seniors division. There is a three-way tie for fifth, at 75, between Todd Waterman, Robert "Andy" Anderson and James Mullins.
In the 11-person senior women's tourney, Christy Dodson stands third, with an 87.
The tournament's final round will take place Sunday, with tee-off slated for 8 a.m.
