HELENA – The Carroll College women's basketball team hosts the second-annual field trip game at noon Wednesday at the PE Center.

The Saints face the St. Thomas Bobcats from Miami Gardens, Florida. The event is sponsored by Delta Dental, which will provide dental hygiene kits for every student in attendance.

More than 2,300 elementary and middle school students from Helena, East Helena and Montana City will pack the gym, about 400 more than last year.

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock and his wife, Lisa, a former Carroll basketball player, will talk to the children at halftime about healthy choices and present awards to a "Champion of Character" from each school.

"We are excited about our second annual field trip game," Carroll coach Rachelle Sayers said. "We are expecting a capacity crowd on hand for our home opener. We will be honoring "champions of character" from our participating schools. You couldn't ask for a better way to open up a home schedule. There is just so much energy in the building, and it's so fun, for not only the kids in the stands, but our players and fans as well. We appreciate Delta Dental for stepping up to sponsor the event and for Gov. Bullock for helping us honor the students."

The reserved seating section will be set aside for other Carroll fans. Sodexo will provide a $5 lunch special that includes a hot dog, chips and a drink.
