The Carroll College volleyball team moved up two spots to No. 17 in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll this week. The Saints went 3-0 over the last two weeks since the last poll was released, with sweeps over MSU-Northern, the University of Great Falls and Rocky Mountain College.
The undefeated Warriors of Midland (Neb.) are once again the top team in the nation, garnering all 21 first-place votes. This is the third consecutive poll in which the Warriors find themselves at the top of the rankings, and they remain undefeated this season at 17-0.
There has only been one program that has been able to maintain the No. 1 ranking for an entire season -- Fresno Pacific accomplished the feat three times, in 2004, 2008 and 2009.
The top five had minor shifting, with no new teams coming in. No. 2 Westmont (Calif.) moved up one spot, as did No. 3 Hastings (Neb.) and No. 4 Viterbo (Wis.). Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) comes in at No. 5 this week after taking its first loss of the season in the NAIA Match of the Week against then-No. 10 Georgetown (Ky.).
Lewis-Clark State is the only program to fall out of the poll this week.
Carroll is 15-4 on the season and 4-1 in Frontier Conference play. The Saints take on Montana Western on Friday at the PE Center to close out the first half of the conference season. A win would give the Saints a two-match lead on the rest of the conference at the halfway point.
The fourth Coaches Poll will be released Oct. 18.
