Carroll College's Crystal Schmidt was named the NAIA National Indoor Field Athlete of the Week after her record-breaking pentathlon performance at the Mountain States Games, the association announced Wednesday.
Schmidt is the first NAIA athlete to break 3,400 points in the pentathlon this season, breaking her own school record to notch a 3,404.
She won the high jump and shot put and took second in the long jump to earn a second-place finish at the meet, finishing behind Idaho State's Bailey Woodbury.
Schmidt, is first in the NAIA and six points ahead of second-place Kylie Gokie from Doane.
The Saints have completed the regular season and will compete at the NAIA Indoor National Championship in Jackson, Tenn., March 2-4.
