Carroll College track and field competed in the first event of the season last Friday at the Yellowjacket/Battlin' Bear Open in Billings, and the Saints earned a pair of athlete of the week honors after strong performances.
Chris Emter was named the Frontier Male Field Athlete of the Week after winning the shot put and hitting the NAIA-B standard with a heave of 15.80 meters.
Rhiannon Sturgess earned Frontier Female Track Athlete of the Week recognition for winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.28, hitting the NAIA-B standard in the event. She also ran a leg on the 4x400-meter relay that won the race by more than eight seconds.
The Saints are back in action this week at the War X meet in Spokane, Washington.
