Carroll men's soccer coach Doug Mello announced the signing of two players to conclude the recruiting class. Derek Stuercke, an outside back out of Juan Diego Catholic High School in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, and Camron Martin, a left back from Mountain View High School in Los Altos, California will join the Saints in 2017.
Stuercke brings a big, 6-foot-2 frame with speed to the table and comes from a winning tradition. Juan Diego won the 2016 State championship after going 18-0. In 2017, the Soaring Eagles fell in overtime to Ridgeline in the title game, 2-1.
He was a letterman and played every game this past season. His club team also found success, winning the Forza Motors Cup in 2016 and the Utah Youth Soccer Association Division I League in 2017.
"Derek will solidify an already talented back line," Mello said. "He is a guy we can count on to put in a first-rate effort every time he steps on the pitch."
Martin brings elite level defense out of Northern California. He helped lead Mountain View to the CCS quarterfinals in 2016 and the semifinals in 2017. His club team, the CV San Jose Gunners, is one of the premier club teams in the nation. GotSoccer.com has the Gunners ranked fourth in the nation.
He was his high school's team MVP and a captain for both his junior and senior seasons. He received all-league first team honors and was also selected to the All-CIS Tournament team.
"Cam will be an immediate contributor in the mold of freshman MVP Eric Hollenbaugh," Mello said. "He has all the tools necessary to be a major player in the Cascade. He is tough in the air, tough one on one defending, tough cutting off the long ball. All this and an attacking mentality as well. The 2017 Saints continue to build a solid foundation for year four in their quest for the CCC title."
The duo will join the rest of the squad when they return in early August before beginning play on Aug. 16 in a home game against the University of Lethbridge.
