Carroll men's soccer head coach Doug Mello announced Monday that two European players have signed letters of intent to join the squad in the fall.
Michele Delle Curti, a defender/midfielder, will join Carroll's program from San Marco Evangelista, Italy, where he is a starting center back on one of the top nonprofessional Serie D teams in the country. He built international experience playing for the Finland Second Division, where he averaged four goals a season off the back line.
"Michele Is a rock-solid defender with attacking prowess out of the back," Mello said. "He will add a new dimension of international experience to our back line. He has played against top level competition in Italy and across Europe, which will make him a tried and true veteran as a freshman. Michelle's ability to get up and down the wing with the ball will make him a constant threat."
Aron Thordarson, a midfielder, joins the Saints from Reykjavik, Iceland. Like Delle Curti, he's played in leagues across Europe. He currently plays for Sindri, a club team out of Hornafjorour, Iceland.
"Aron is in the mold of any talented Nordic player," Mello said. "He is strong, physical, mentally tough, and hard to knock off the ball. His background in Iceland's top division will make him an immediate 'go-to' player for the Saints. Aron is someone we can build the middle of the field around."
The Saints begin play on Aug. 16 at home against Lethbridge.
