The Carroll College soccer teams took on Whitworth on Sunday in Spokane, and both turned in a win. The Saints men took a 2-1 decision in double overtime, while the women prevailed 1-0 in regulation.

The Carroll men found themselves trailing 1-0 at halftime, Whitworth clanging home a rebound off the crossbar less than nine minutes in. Rodrigo Portillo, though, tied it up off an assist from Eric Hollenbaugh in the 54th minute.

Neither team scored in the first extra frame, but then Kyle Thomson scored after a corner kick, knocking it home in the scramble in the 105th minute. Credited with the assists on the game winner were Alessio Geordiades and Hollenbaugh.

The women’s game saw just the one goal, Madison Apsey scoring unassisted in the 21st minute.

Devan Murfitt earned the shutout in goal, assisted by a strong defense. She was forced to make just three saves in the win.
