Lexi Pyette hit a seven-over 79 to finish round one in third place and lead the Carroll women's golf team to a third-place team position in day one of the three-round, three-day Frontier Conference Championship at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Arizona.
The Carroll men finished fourth after the first round. The Saints were led by Austin Egan with an eight-over 79 to end the day in 11th place.
Pyette played a stellar front nine, scoring a birdie on hole one and hitting par on five other holes. Her only double bogey came on No. 12 and she tallied pars on five holes on the back nine.
Katie Goings was second for the Saints with a first round score of 83. She didn't record a double bogey all round and notched seven pars on the day.
Rocky Mountain leads the women's tournament with a team score of 325. Carroll is still in the mix with a 340.
Egan scored birdies on three, 10, 13 and 14. But he was inconsistent during Monday's first round with three double bogeys and a triple bogey.
Bryce Samwel had a great front nine with a birdie on No. 1 and four pars for a 37. He struggled on the back nine with a triple bogey on the No. 11 and a double bogey on No. 18.
Lewis-Clark leads the men's tournament with a team score of 304, while Carroll sits in fourth with a 332.
