Carroll sophomore Greg Jones hit a team-best 76 to help the Saints cut 14 strokes off their team total and remain in fourth place after two rounds of the Frontier Conference Championship in Tempe, Ariz.

The Carroll women remain in third place after shooting a second-round team score of 345, five strokes off their first-round total.

Jones led a team improvement that helped hold off a hard-charging Montana Tech team. The Diggers sit just one stroke behind the Saints in fifth place.

"I am happy to see the guys team improve the way they did today," coach Bennett MacIntyre said. "Greg Jones really stepped up, and it was nice to get a solid scoring round from him. I think we will have our best round in the third and final round tomorrow."

Rachel Miles led the way for the women with a second-round 84. Lexi Pyette overcame some early struggles to score a second-round 85 and sits in fifth place overall with a two-round total of 164. Katie Goings is in seventh with a two-round total of 170. Miles jumped into ninth place, up from 13th.

"We have three girls in the Top 10, and hopefully we can finish with another strong showing tomorrow as a team," MacIntyre said. "Lexi battled out there today and was in the feature women's group. I was happy with the way she responded and hung in there when she wasn't having her best day."

The Saints close out the championship on Wednesday.
