Wolcott won the honor for his feature story on the 2000-01 Frontier Conference Championship Carroll men's basketball team.
There are no separate divisions for the size of the school. The award honors the best writing by SIDs across all divisions, including the NCAA, NAIA, junior college and all of Canadian college athletics.
District 7 includes Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Wolcott is one of just two winners from the NAIA, joining Georgia Gwinnett's Jason Hendrix, who won the Event Coverage award in District 3.
