Down 2-0 in the third, Modesto cut into the lead when Bryson Brigman hit an RBI single, scoring Jorge Solano.

The Ports added to their lead in the fifth inning when Merrell hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Nate Mondou.

The Ports later tacked on a run in both the eighth and ninth innings. In the eighth, Mondou hit an RBI single, while Jonah Heim scored on a wild pitch in the ninth.

Brendan Butler (2-0) got the win in relief while Modesto starter Ljay Newsome (0-2) took the loss in the California League game.
