The Helena Brewers dropped a second consecutive game to the Billings Mustangs on Monday in the Magic City, losing 6-1.
Helena (23-41) led 1-0 after the top of the second inning when Jose Gomez reached base on a fielding error and Chad McChanahan scored.
After that, though, the Mustangs (29-34) took over.
In the bottom of the second inning Leandro Santana hit an RBI single. Montrell Marshall added to the scoring when he hit a sacrifice fly and then Tristen Lutz erred fielding the ball, putting the Mustangs up 2-1.
Billings put up a three-run fifth inning to extend the lead. Stuart Fairchild hit a single on a line drive to center field, scoring two runs, thanks in part to another error by Lutz. Andy Sugilio hit a line drive to left field to score Fairchild and put Billings up 5-1.
Billings’ final run came in the bottom of the sixth. Alejo Lopez hit a triple to right field to conclude the scoring in the game.
The Brewers mustered five hits on the evening while Billings had seven. Four errors by Helena gave Billings the extra bases it needed to come away with the win.
Alec Bettinger (3-3) started on the mound for the Brewers, going five innings and giving up five hits and three earned runs while striking out five and walking three.
Robbie Hitt came in for three innings of relief, giving up two hits and a run, and striking out four.
The loss puts the Brewers 6.5 games behind first-place Great Falls with 12 games to play.
The Brewers begin a two-game road series at Great Falls on Tuesday.
