The Helena Senators lost their third game at the Missoula Memorial Day Class AA Legion Tournament on Monday, 7-2 to Vauxhall, despite outhitting the Alberta club 10-8.
Vauxhall jumped out to a 5-0 first-inning lead, and extended it to 6-0 after the second frame. Helena finally got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the sixth, while the Canadians tallied again in their half of the inning.
The Senators scored the last counter of the contest to get within five, but it was too little, too late. Helena slipped to 1-3 in the tourney.
Vauxhall was led by Mercier (three hits), Penner (double) and Harms (home run), with two RBIs apiece. Starting pitcher Hawkins went 4.2 innings for the win.
Brett Jacobs started on the hill for Helena, allowing five hits and six runs in two innings for the loss. He was relieved by Payton Pappas, who worked 3.0 frames of scoreless two-hit ball, and Ray Moore Jr.
Conor McCarvel paced the hitting with three singles, while Isaiah Meza was 2 for 2, with an RBI. Kellan Elder chipped in with an RBI single.
