The Billings Royals piled up 15 hits en route to a 14-9 win over the Helena Senators on Thursday in the Magic City.
The Royals got the scoring started early, putting across four in the first inning. Helena, though, answered and chased Royals starter Tyler Frieders after scoring six in the second and another two in the third to take an 8-5 lead.
Billings got their fifth run in the second, where the Royals also sent Helena’s starter to the dugout early. The home team tacked on another two runs in the bottom of the third to make it a one-run game.
The back-and-forth battle continued, and the teams were tied at 9 heading into the sixth. There, the Royals took control -- scoring four in the bottom of the inning. Billings relievers Dann Blanchard and Cameron Maciel, who pitched the ninth, shut down Helena the rest of the way.
The Senators had 10 hits in the loss, with Colin Sassano, Kienan Stief, Carter Pappas and Eamonn Byrne all picking up a pair of hits.
