Baseball fans itching to get a first look at the Helena Brewers will have to wait one more day.

The Pioneer League team was to face off against the Class AA American Legion Senators at Kindrick Legion Field on Wednesday, but rain has moved that contest back to Thursday evening.

It will be the second year the teams have played in the exhibition game.

The Brewers won last year’s inaugural contest 7-1, but after the game Sens coach Dave Thennis was thrilled.

“This was a lot of fun, and that's what it was about … to just come out and have a good time. We enjoyed it, and we hope they did, too," Thennis said a year ago. "And this was a great experience for our guys."

As was the case in 2016, the Brewers and Senators will play on mixed teams. Brewers pitchers will throw to Brewers hitters with Senators players in the field on defense. When the Senators are batting, they will face off against their pitchers with the Brewers fielding their positions. This will give the Senators a chance to play alongside professional players while the Brewers work to find some early rhythm before the start of the season.

The Brewers kick off their summer campaign on Monday with a home game against Great Falls.

Gates open at Kindrick Legion Field at 6 p.m. Thursday. Admission is $7, or $5 for students with a valid ID. All proceeds from admission will go to the Helena American Legion program.
