Education: PhD in sociology
Occupation: Part-time student at Carroll College; volunteer
Relevant experience: I have served one term on the Helena Citizens Council so I am familiar with the operation and organization of the group and of the city. I volunteer with several organizations in town, giving me perspectives from a variety of vantage points. As a sociologist by training I am comfortable analyzing data, interpreting trends, and thinking about the consequences of possible actions.
Why are you running for this office?
I am running for this office so that I can be part of the process of improving the lives of all residents of Helena. I have no particular agenda that I want to see enacted, but I believe strongly that government needs to respond to the needs of all its citizens, especially those who lack a voice or have not had a seat at the table where decisions are made that will affect them.
What do you hope to accomplish in this office?
I hope to continue learning about the issues and needs of the Helena community and to be a voice for all citizens so I can make informed recommendations to the City Commission. Some issues I am interested in include affordable housing, a vibrant and viable downtown, economic development and job creation in Helena, public safety and a healthy and varied cultural life. Helena should be a city where everyone feels welcomed and valued.
Why should people vote for you?
I am well-informed, and when I do not know enough, I seek out high-quality information to help me understand all aspects of an issue to make a well-reasoned decision. I listen carefully to all perspectives, and try to be objective and fair.
