As a mother of four, I want to do everything I can to keep my children healthy and safe. I want to help them avoid going through what my husband, father and countless other family members and friends have experienced: battling cancer. Knowing what is used in cosmetics and personal care products can help families like mine avoid ingredients known to cause cancer as well as infertility, endocrine disruption, asthma and pre-term birth. While we may be exposed to these ingredients in small doses, with everyday use, our exposure adds up, particularly when you consider that the average consumer uses 10 products each day. Like many others, I was shocked to learn that there has not been a major federal law passed regulating the personal care industry since 1938. I urge Senator Tester and Senator Daines to support the most health protective piece of legislation that moves through Congress. As consumers, we deserve the right to know what we are being exposed to.
