I am writing to encourage my fellow community members to vote “Yes” for the jail levy on the mail-in ballot for the November 7th election. I work directly with people who could benefit from the attention that pre-trial diversion programs provide. These programs will help to decrease recidivism by connecting offenders with resources such as chemical dependency and mental health treatment. For example, if a person is suffering from Schizophrenia and habitually re-offends, they could get set up with a mental health professional to get them medicated and stabilized. A person struggling with addiction could be assessed early on and potentially receive treatment. Bolstering the services in our jail is a community issue, not a partisan one. The passing of this jail bond will strengthen Helena and keep our families safer.
