Victimized by another mass shooting; it's as if these shooters' sole intent is to surpass each carnage record. With the media as scorekeeper, they're well aware of the goal.

His brother says he was "just a guy," with no religious/political affiliation; no mental health history.

The guns were legal, converted to automatic weapons via inexpensive conversion kits. If automatic weapons are illegal, why are such kits available?

Perhaps a solution is elusive and complicated. Surely, though, more can be done than just offering "thoughts & prayers". Perhaps less worship at the feet of gun lobbyists would be worth a start.

I've heard that statesmen govern with the next generation in mind. Obviously, Congress has too few statesmen and too many "weathervane" politicos, focused only on the political winds of re-election.

"Weathervane" politicos offer thoughts and prayers, perhaps also lowering the flag.

I'm sure that's not what Bob Dylan meant by "the answer, my friends, is blowin' in the wind".

When I next receive a campaign solicitation, I will return it with a note expressing my "thoughts & prayers". I wonder if they will think it's sufficient!
