In an increasingly polarized and sensationalized society, it is rare to hear about collaboration and reconciliation. These latter values are the cornerstone of the Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act.
For over 10 years, ranchers, loggers, wilderness advocates, snowmobile and mountain bike groups have all come together to create a positive piece of legislation.
Interests widely differ between these groups. Ranchers and loggers are concerned about land productivity and job stability. Wilderness advocates are concerned about ecosystem preservation and human restraint. Snowmobile and mountain bike users are concerned about ample recreational opportunities and areas.
These concerns are all accounted for the with the passing of the BCSA; it ensures restorative forestry practices and contracts, federally designated wilderness areas, and specific recreation areas for snowmobile and mountain bike use.
This act sets a precedent by and for Montanans that working together ensures strong solutions. It is time for U.S. Sen. Steve Daines to stand with Montanans and support the collaborative Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act.
